Just got my new Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II and I am very pleased how deep this detector detects. It doesn't have alot of discrimination but i tend to dig everything anyway. The water has been rough the last two days but i still managed to find alot of junk..

Hello David, you did well out there, especially with regard to how much competition is there. I used the Mark IIs, in my '04-'05 seasons exclusively, with success. However, I would encourage you to not use the discrimination features, as it may cost you some gold. I ran the following settings and they work well, do with then as you will mate. Threshold/Volume barely audible, Discrimination/Elimination on 0 and Standard Trash Elimination. I would not recommend Discrete. Good luck out there and here is a pic from the archives.

Thanks for the tip and i agree i tried the descrete mode and i did not like it. Va Beach has alot of competion on it that is why i decided to get a underwater detector. I started out in the surf and found out that there was as much trash in it as the dry sand. The water has been so rough the last 2 days and today i lost my sand scoop:rant: A big wave came in and knocked it right out of my hand. I just ordered another one I got a velco strap and string off of boggie board so i want lose this one.The Sea Hunter is a PI machine and loves iron so i will have to accept finding alot of hair pins and bottle caps.

With the new detector I bet it will pick up a sand scoop. You are gonna go back and try to find it aren't you? I never have had the pleasure of working where you guys work. Just do fresh lakes. Maybe it's rediculous to try to find your scoop, but it's so large you'd think it's sound off. Specially with a PI. If you hook it to your body someway, make sure you have a fail safe way to ditch it if necessary. You don't want to be where ever your sandscoop is right now. Jim
 
I have a Seahunter also and it's a good machine. I dig everthing and recommend you do to. I use a surfboad strap myself (found on beach) and it does the job. Goodluck and be patient! Sandmagnet
