Seahunter Mark II vs Infinium

Rainman

New member
I bought a new Seahunter last spring and have problems with holding a steady threshold. One of the forum members said they had the same problem and had to switch to the discrimination mode to keep a steady tone. This seems to work, but I prefer all metal. Those of you who have an infinium, does it have the same problem. I am thinking of selling the Seahunter and trading up. Most hunting will be done in the ocean surf and diving in fresh water

I had a SeaHunter II for quite a while and only used it for frewhwater lake hunting. I found the old 1280x used by most of my club members would kick my butt on seeded club hunts at the local lakes. The "discrimination" feature really didn't work too well and I could never tell how deep a target was with it. I think it would be ideal for use by someone who actually dived underwater in salt water. But for lake hunting I couldn't find any advantage. I don't know if trading up would work better for you or not. Onus

My Infinium, once tuned properly runs very smooth. If I want to make it chatter, I just increase the threshold, which will at the same time increase my depth.

Nature of the beast..its a deep machine. Infinium is more difficult to tune than the SH. Keep it....its made for power in the surf and diving. Infinium is primarliy a gold prospecting machine and is more sensitive than the SH...which some people can't tame at the beach.

I like both.

Have both, like both & CAN tame it in the salt Both are very deep but remember they are PI machines so pick your beaches

I just bought the sea hunter. There isn't much to tune on the hunter either standard or discriminate mode, adj threashold and the discr knob.
I have found the discriminate setting better to keep the threashold sound steady. Is standard mode deeper and better in salt water. I am new to water hunting with a pi machine. Thanks, marty

The Infinium LS is an incredible machine which I love to use prospecting and beach/surf hunting. However, you will not find a deeper machine than the Sea Hunter MK ll w/10"x14" mono search coil (aside from the two-box units, of course).
While using the MK ll, I use the discreet trash elimination mode with zero disc. This keeps the machine's threshold running smoothly while still achieving very good depth. When I get a target signal, I switch to standard mode to help pinpoint more easily.
Dig everything. If at a beach loaded with iron trash, switch to Infinium which has iron check. Infinium will make all kinds of crazy sounds in salt water surf, but good signals are easy to decipher from other sounds.
Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
