Search Coil sticky for the BBS units the Sovereign and Excalibur

I would like to start a sticky for the Sovereign and Excalibur coils in the near future. My idea start with early and progress to the most recent coils and let actual users chime in on their opinions. The right coil will make a difference of success or failure on a search. LOL the other day I had a 14x9 Nugget Finder coil for a GPX and noticed the connector plug was identical to the Explorer. One of my most brilliant ideas, plug the coil into my Explorer and see what happens, there was another thought just don't do it.Anyway my curiosity won out.I plugged the coil in and the Explorer screen went blank, removed the coil and the Explorer was dead would not power back up.Anyway just because a coil connector plug will fit your Sovereign doesn't mean it will work. However the story did end on a good note the Explorer was revived after a little CPR and soldering. Thanks Ron

Ron, great idea for a sticky! Do you mind if I dig up the old FBS and BBS coil weight and price chart I threw together (with the help of others weighing coils I didn't have for it)? I think that would be a good link in the sticky, as there are many who here and there care more about coil weight then anything else, in particular with big coils.

Ron, here's the link to the FBS and BBS coil weight chart, which I just bumped up anyway to add the 18x15 weight the somebody recently posted the weight on...

You're doing a great job in getting some very useful stickys together for this forum, Ron! I always thought things like the VDI charts and an overview of the various Sovereign/Excal models like you put up would be great for newbies looking into buying a BBS machine. Also, maybe one day when you have the time to do it, I think it would be helpful to list all the various meters in a sticky just for them, to show what models there were and what the pros and cons of them were. I mean, there are analog meters that were sold for the Sovereign just like digital ones, and of course there was even that odd bar graph meter that Minelab made for a short while, which is very rare, as I've only seen that meter talked about a few times before.
