Second- and different style- War of 1812 Rifleman button

Scenario84

New member
Today I finally got out, haven't gone hunting almost all summer. Went to a previously hunted colonial cellar hole and dug this sweet war of 1812 rifleman button. This is the second rifleman button I've found from that war. The first had the eagle with the shield and script R. If anyone has more info is love to hear it. I'm not a button expert.

Wonderful recovery, I'm envious.
May you have continued success, Mike

I've always fantasized of being a collector of military relics when I bought my detector, but all I've found oddly enough are two War of 1812 buttons. Awesome enough in their own right. But hardly what I ever expected to find. If you ask me way cooler than WW2, civil war, ect cuz of their age. But I had no idea of the history of where I lived. I found the two buttons, and over 60 musket balls. Come to find out I lived 8 miles from a WO1812 American headquarters and 1 mile from a local volunteer regiment Never know history till you dig it up. That's the best part of this hobby in my opinion!

man what a killer find!
Thanks Calabash! It was. I took a video where I dug it live and I said "it's a button, not as exciting as a coin, unless it's a military button which I doubt". Man did I eat my words!

Howdy Scenario84--

Congratulations on your historic find! Your Militia Rifleman's button is listed in Albert's button book on page 79 as RF 26B. It is listed as 22 mm and has an RV of 8. You have a good hunting site there. Keep digging! Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!
