Many thanks to my friends at home and on this board who have helped me learn a little about this awesome machine. I set up my own discriminate pattern and spent 5 hours at the homesite of a friend, whose grandfather had had a home there in the early 20th century. My friend's dad was a WWII veteran, which explains the shell casing from a 20mm cannon dated 1943. The finds are pictured in this order, clockwise: the shell casing, two parts of a silver plated spoon, two pieces of lead (?), a cub scout pendant with chain, and motto on reverse, a boyscout (?) whistel (still works), memorial and wheat cents, an old, old Ford mustang key, a silver standing liberty quarter (date worn off), two 1940's nickels and a gear from an old clock(?). The rusty thingy is the remains of a pocket knife, and there is in the 5 o'clock interior position a brass six-sided nut like thingy. The Lord is good to have provided such a good outing this afternoon. I was really excited to find the silver quarter, the cub scout pendant and the whistle. The other finds were Langniappe, as we say in LSU bayou country.
