I'm starting to get the impression that there aren't any good finds that are deeper than what the SEF 10x12 can find around here.
My second test spot was a place where the 10 x 12 found some real deep indians. Not a peep from the 15x12 coil in that area.
I was able to move to another area and found 3 indians that were shallow. 2 were on edge or tilted. If I understand it correctly, large coils transmit a signal at more of an angle and pick up coins on edge better. This seemed to be the case yesterday. One wheatie was
totally vertical too but again only 3 inches or so down. After switching back to the 8 inch coil I was able to get one more indian and a V nickel. Total of 4 Indians dug including a worn 1867.
My conclusion for the day on the 15x12 coil, if they aren't down there it won't find them! If it's on edge it will find them better!
I have a couple more test spots to try. One in particular was good for deep silver(WW2 era and later). Maybe this will be the spot where the 15x12 shines. I'll keep you posted.
