Second hunt with the S.E.F. 15 x 12 coil...

I'm starting to get the impression that there aren't any good finds that are deeper than what the SEF 10x12 can find around here.
My second test spot was a place where the 10 x 12 found some real deep indians. Not a peep from the 15x12 coil in that area.
I was able to move to another area and found 3 indians that were shallow. 2 were on edge or tilted. If I understand it correctly, large coils transmit a signal at more of an angle and pick up coins on edge better. This seemed to be the case yesterday. One wheatie was
totally vertical too but again only 3 inches or so down. After switching back to the 8 inch coil I was able to get one more indian and a V nickel. Total of 4 Indians dug including a worn 1867.
My conclusion for the day on the 15x12 coil, if they aren't down there it won't find them! If it's on edge it will find them better!
I have a couple more test spots to try. One in particular was good for deep silver(WW2 era and later). Maybe this will be the spot where the 15x12 shines. I'll keep you posted.

Also Neal the detector TID isnt changing with the larger coil..... the processor has to process MORE information which means sifting thru more iron and trash. Thats why in some areas its not going to be one bit better than a smaller coil when it comes to depth. The machine is going thru the same process.... size and averaging targets. So it comes down to.... how well is it separating the targets based on your setting and the halo and foot print the coil is giving off. Ive never heard that about the coil going at a different angle.... but i do know the deep the target the more toward the center of the coil it will pinpoint. Which means a 12" coil may only be sweeping say 6 inchs total on a target at say 9 inches deep. Thats why its important to over lap your swing even with a good DD coil. Ive found the best place to use those LARGE coils is on the beach where theres far less targets and minerals..... they do a kick butt job there. Its like sensitivity.... what i found on the beach was that there was a point of no gain. After 29 sensitivity in the area i was hunting there just was no clear advantage of using higher sensitivity.
