Hi again foks,
Well, today's outing proved to be a bit more productive than the last, even though I didn't find any gold.
The detector ran smoother after adjusting the SAT and reject to compensate for the mineralization, and once set I rarely had to make any additional adjustments except from time to time.
I did happen to find in about 6" of earth a bullet fragment that weighed about 1 gram and shaped similar to a nugget. So I have no doubt that had this been a gold nugget I would have pulled it up. I also found at around the same depth one of those old round slugs used in musket type rifles. What this was doing out in the middle of the desert I have no idea. Maybe some old timer kept it in the family and brought it with him from back east and used it to shoot jackrabbits.
My temporary pole mount modification seemed to work well. The detector felt very balanced, and it helped to reduce fatigue on the arm even after all day of swinging the machine. Even after sliding down on my fanny a couple of times the control box didn't budge either.
Well, let's hope next time I report I will at least have a nugget to show for my endeavors.
