Seeking coil info

Hi All
I just purchased an Explorer II that also comes with the 12.5inch EXcelerator coil. I would really like to get a 14inch WOT. Would there be any great benefit (other than a bit more depth) in doing this?
And, how much more depth would the 14inch WOT get?
Is there a big difference in the design and quality of these two brands. (I know that they are both DD coils)
Your the experts, and I would appreciate your input.
Unfortunately, winter is upon us up here in Edmonton
so I might have to take a trip out to the coast to try it out.
I really like my MXT and I have a feeling that I'm going to really like the Explorer.

here's my experience with them:
the 12.5" excelerator is heavy, feels like it's going to break your lower rod, and i didn't find it any deeper than the stock coil, (despite what some big dealer says).
and, the one i tried was unstable in certain ground, where it would just go nuts with falsing over something, i guess lot's of iron.
the wot weighs about the same as the stock coil, and is about an inch deeper on a coin, as far as i can tell.
the biggest difference i can see between the wot and the stock coil is, the wot hits gold and lead hard. no wonder folks love the wot on the beach. i can get almost 50% greater depth on minnie balls with the wot over the stock coil. it's not that the wot is so much deeper, it's that the stock coil stinks on lead and gold.
this is my opinion so far based on experience in my ground.
i hope it helps. <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">

I was at a yard (my girlfriend's father's) and had a half hour at best to detect it.
I went for the WOT coil. I did the back yard and front yard (there was no side yards) in 1/2 hour, got a hand full of change and a nice $200.00 gold ring.
After I've covered a 20' by 20' area where I've found coins with the stock 10" coil I then put on the WOT. Did that a year ago where I found a bunch of wheaties with the 10" coil in that 20 x 20 area. So I thought maybe I'm just missing a silver coin by my sweeping so i put on the WOT and found the only silver coin, a Washington quarter. It was missed because my sweep pattern missed it. The 14" makes it so the sweep pattern doesn't miss anything.

I hear arguments about depth claims all of the time.
However, and Andy Sabisch who is a guru on the Explorer, will tell you that the Explorer with a WOT coil can nail a quarter at 18 inches.
Not only that, but it finds item on edge well within the depth range of the stock coil, that the stock coil will miss. The WOT coil loves on edge coins, buttons etc.
Disregarding depth for a minute, what we know about all of the reports on the WOT coil is this. Considering added depth and added coverage, almost 40% more coverage with every sweep, you increase your finds by 80%.
So if you normally find 5 targets an hour with your stock coil, be prepared to dig 9 targets per hour with the WOT coil.
If your hunting time is limited, say you only get in 2 hours after work every day with a stock coil. Well by using a WOT coil, in that same 2 hours, it will be like covering the amount of ground you normally would in 3 1/2 hours.
Remember, detecting is nothing more than processing dirt. The more dirt you process the more targets you will find. The quicker you can process the dirt, the quicker you can find the targets.
In Australia, when a professional prospector starts finding a big patch of gold with his metal detector, do you think he keeps detecting ? NOPE ! He gets an end loader and a commericial dry washer, called a dry blower in Australia, and he starts scraping the ground down. He wants to process the dirt as quickly as possible and recover the gold as quickly as he can so he can maximize his time, to produce as much profit per hour as possible.

Want to see some fist size gold that came from this patch ?

Chris Hake is a mate of mine and a professional gold prospector in Australia, this story tells you how he makes his living find gold nuggets !
Why is this prospector jumping for joy??? Take a look at what he has in his hand! THAT MY FRIEND IS A GOLD NUGGET !

The WOT coil easily pays for itself in the additional targets it recovers.
Take care!
