SEF vs Coiltek for Minelab SE

I have the 10x12 SEF, Coiltek Joey, and a few other Explorer coils (including duplicates for spares). I like them all. The thing to keep in mind is that each coil has its strong points.

Not to drone into a long story but I hunted one yard to death with my DFX using the standard Whites 9.5 coil. After I got my SE I re-hunted it to death. The few hunts I used the Joey and I found stuff I walked over w/ the DFX - but hey it's a Minelab right so you're going to find stuff missed my a Whites machine so maybe that's not a good start to the story : ) Anyway... I bought and used the Sunray X8 for the next series of hunts and I found coins and buttons I missed with Joey. Then I got the old standard ML1050 and I found coins I missed with the other two coils. Then I got the ML Pro and again I found stuff.

Now I'm going to admit that some of the "finding" was a result of gaining experience with the machine over time. However just like a lot of the top hunters on the forum I learned that having more than one coil is the right way to go because each coil has its place and time. The hard thing to do is to make the decision on which order to buy them in : ) Some will become favorites and some will collect dust but when that happens you have to make a conscious effort to dust them off and go hunt with them.

Merry Christmas,

Doug M.
