Selective Hunting

Friday after work I had but 45 minutes to get out and try to cure my cabin fever. Living in SW Iowa it has been rather cold until the past week and the ground had been too frozen to think about digging. With a couple days of lower 50 degree days the soil had started to thaw to the place where just maybe a guy could pop out a few coins. With not much free time to hunt I went to a spot a couple blocks from my house that has been used as a parking area for an annual rodeo for the past 80 years. I have wandered around this spot several times and have never covered near all of it as it is about a 40 acre pasture. I decided with little time and the possibility of the ground being still a little frozen I would just cherry pick or look only for dimes and quarters. I took my White's XL Pro and began to search an area of the pasture I had not yet detected. In short in the 45 minutes of detecting I managed to pull 6 dimes and 2 quarters and 1 wheatie. The Wheatie was a questionable signal and wasn't sure if it was a penny or dime. Only got one silver out of the trip but was still enough to temporarily cure the cabin fever. 1928D Merc.
Tomorrow my brother, Digger, and I are planning an outing as we believe the ground has thawed enough that we may be able to pull a few coins. Even if we don't have much luck I bet we have a good time trying. Will keep you posted.
