I have a large man's gold ring that i found detecting. It has a 1.2 carat diamond in it that my wife wants to put into a new setting for her use. What can i do with the man's setting? I need to know a reputable dealer that will buy scrap gold. Any help is appreciated.

Go to a jeweler in your area. Especially if your thinking about a new setting. Trade the gold for the setting. I had my wifes ring made here in my home town with diamonds I found and traded gold for the setting.

I agree with scubadetector. First take it to a local jewelry in your area and get a quote. Generally, local jewelers will give you the most, but on a couple of occasions, I have sent my jewelry in online to see if the quote is reasonable. If you do this, make sure you use a site that is reputable and offers 2 things 1) Insurance (HUGE) 2) 100% satisfaction guarantee. That way if you are not happy with the check you receive, you can always get your gold back. I have sent in gold 4 times to a site called GoldPawnShop.com. The are considered an online pawn shop. 2 times their payouts were higher and 2 times they weren't and I got my gold back. Anyways good luck, but make sure you get multiple quotes!
