Semi Auto versus Manuel setting

Im not sure what you mean by average since in Semi it will adjust to the surrounding conditions..... EMI and ground. Ive just got very comfortable using manual 24 to 26. That said if you use too much sensitivity your machine picks up deep iron that can null your machine more than in Semi. Ive tested almost every deep signal ive dug this past year in both semi and auto and cant say there is a difference. You use a little depth in semi... air test you will see what i mean, more so in trashy areas, but the double edged sword is you can pickup to much iron in manual which will null your coil and make you miss targets. I make adjustments to the conditiions.... change sounds, sensitivity, IM, or even patterns if needed especially in areas ive hunted before.

Dew hit the nail on the head. I also have spent the last month or so checking signal by switching between manual and auto. I hunt in manual 24 and just hit the auto button to check signals. I find eight inch plus coins most every time out and every signal I hear in manual I hear in auto. I continue to hunt in manual in less trashy fields and the detector seems to work better for me in auto when I get in heavy trash. I have had Explorers for years and almost every one had a Sunray probe on it. Since I started using auto, I think the probe loses an inch or so depth in auto compared to manual. This could be my imagination. If anybody could try switching the probe between auto and manual when digging a target, see what you think. R.L.

Hey RLOH, you are right about the probe.... but in semi its more stable and i dont have to use the pinpoint as often because of falseing in the hole. BUT...i love my sunray.

You received some good info and going to MLO TV http://www.mlotv.com/tag/explorer/ has a video where it explains how to set sens. using the threshold....which should help...personally feel set in manual gives one better audio on a specific target but semi-auto probably provides a more stable and less noisy unit...as it adjusts to the area but many run in rather high sens. even though their unit is noisy to get more depth...so indeed many aspects to take into consideration...and no clear cut answer as conditions vary from area to area...Its up to you to adjust you unit for your neck of the woods..

I run gain jacked and semi auto sensitivity. I don't get near as many falses and chirps as I would running manual....so I feel the high gain helps me hear the fainter hits better.
No right or wrong setting...only what works for each of us.
