was at the rest area in Clare, MI yesterday to serve coffee, cookies, popcorn, lemonade and bottled water to the many motorists returning home from their long Memorial Day weekend.

As we drove by I snapped a shot of the rest area - it was almost packed to max capacity:

We wanted to come in from the other side so we would be in the right direction to go home at days end.

By the time we arrived, the others who manned the refreshments had just run out of popcorn, was on the last container of lemonade, down to about 8 bottles of bottled water, running low on cookies and the coffee was in need of being refilled soon.

Here is Sherry as she is getting things organized after we took the popcorn machine off the table top:

I liked the sign next to our refreshment stand:

Though we were only to stay until 5:30, I put on a fresh pot of coffee and we stayed til close to 6:30 and had served many others who would not have received refreshments had we left earlier.

By the time we were ready to close up, there was no lemonade left, only a few cookies, some coffee. There was no charge for any of the items and we also refused donations...after all we were there to serve our Lord by serving others..not to make money off of others.

We got to talk to alot of people...even a few who are from our same town. It was great seeing the smiles on children's faces as they got free cookies and lemonade. The parents got a chance to relax a little before hitting the roads again.

Many were surprised we would take nothing including donations. Serving the Lord was fun for us and I am sure it was a blessing to many many motorists and their families. Next time though...we are getting some dog bisquits for the pets too.

Made us proud to be Christians and Americans.

Hope you all had a safe and wonderful Memorial Day.

A neat service project! I am sure many were blessed! :)

but they were charging for their stuff. Probably making money for another radar detector. Just kidding..am sure their hearts were in the right place.
