Okay I have my Deus in and need to get her out to the field. But where I live to just try her I have a high amount of iron in the ground. So much so there is a mine nearby that the Confederates used during the Civil War to mine iron. So I am switching between Basic 1 and Basic 9 I believe. Mainly 9 because of the frequency and is suppose to be better for higher mineralized ground.

So my question is this.........Do I still do the ground balance "pumping" to get the balance even in a pre-set program?

It makes sense that I would to get the balance but then again I am a newb to teh Deus, Which leads me to this.............I got two great hits that were registering a 97 roughly give or take a point on the TID. I dig thinking maybe a quarter but it was a crushed Coke aluminum can!!!! I thought aluminum registered a lower TID???

Then at another part of the yard I got a 54 TID solid hit............man I am thinking this will be a decent find. Well I dug it up and what appears to be molten metal like if you were ever a welder and would have a blob of molten metal???

Go figure..............anyone that can shed light on these finds and my GB question would be appreciated.

I would if you could always ground bal and use a freq of 18 and tx power at 1-2 and reactivity at about 3 silencer at minus 1 small coil slow your swing down try three tone or four and set your disc to about 6

If the soil is iron infested, you need to raise your reactivity, let's say 3 to begin until 5 if it's really trashy, high frequency of course, silencer at -1 but it's gonna be hard if you just began with you're Deus, silencer at 0 will be a great beggining, and if the power of mineralization doesn't raise too much just stay at 87/90, if the right bar is at the top pump your soil and increase the number by +1 or +2.
disc at 6.7 is great.

so just set the deus fast program in the first time, train yourself and then adjust the method.
See ya.

Thanks for the feedback guys! One other observation I found between the manual and Andy's book I may be reading wrong but I don't think so and they contradict one another. That is:

The Deus supplied maual states the following general statement page 11:

4KHz setting better depth with optimal target conductivity on larger targets in a low mineralized ground uncontaminated with iron
8KHz setting general use for coins and large masses in low minerlaized ground
12KHz setting general use for small coins in medium to high mineralized ground
18KHz setting small coins from any alloy but unstable on mineralized ground

The book by Andy states on page 15 with a graph:

4KHz max depth on larger targets on a preferred soil with high mineralization (Discrepancy from above)
8KHz decreases slightly from above
12KHz basically middle of road
18KHz lower detection depth on smaller targets in a preferred soil with low mineralization

So does the Deus fast program at 18KHz be used best in iron?

Here's some more informations, still in french but I could try to translate for you guys :

first the link in case you would like to translate the text : http://www.detecteur-deus-detection.com/choisir-frequence-detection-xp-deus/

then the interesting part :

18 kHz : that's THE frequency to use when soil is infested with ferrous and ideal for mineralized soils. It's sensitive to low conductivity targets wich make it very selective on grounds wich conductivy is draged to the ferrous. Nethertheless this frequency has issues when soils are wet, clean of ferrous or non mineralized (unmineralized I don't know how to say) . On this kind of soil, you'd rather use 12 kHz than 18. But if you considerate a large amount of ferrous targets on your spot, even a few, and you're looking for small and low conductives targets, than you should use the 18 kHz; no doubt on this!

PS : Sorry for the translation's mistakes, it's still hard for me to write correctly, grrrrr!!!

don't know about the glob of metal but aluminum cans read high coin on just about all the detectors ever made. good luck
