sharping digging tools

A friend of mine who I go metal detecting with had a digger that I tried and it seemed to go into the ground pretty easy. After I ordered mine they told me that they had sharpened theirs that is why it dug so good. Do any of you put a edge on your digging tools?

Yes I do on my lesche and shovel makes for easier digging and a nice clean plug to boot.

Or a grinder works faster. Don't get it too hot. Depends on the time of year around here. Once things dry out it is tough digging in places. Of course the flip side is it's easier to scratch a target--be careful.

I used to go to this park and the ground was the hardest ground ever. We used to go there and use a K bar knife just to break the ground open.

Periodically sharpen some. Don’t over do. You can get one too sharp hence it will dull faster. Plus if you get too sharp you run higher risk of cutting yourself.

I use a dremel with a grinder tip to sharpen my Lesche from time to time. Definitely makes it even better in ground with a lot of roots.
