Short relic hunt today. Very interesting find!

I got out for a quick hunt with a buddy today. We hunted two sites. Found a few interesting things at the first site. I Had a solid quarter signal and dug a large copper piece that I initially thought might be a belt plate. It ended up being some sort of commemorative item for the National Community Bank, Albany NY. Pretty interesting piece. It has a seal in the middle (which ended up coming off) that had a date of 1825. I'm thinking this might be something from 1925 celebrating 100 years. The second site we hunted was much older... dates to around 1800.. We only had about 45 minutes to hunt it but I turned up a couple spoon bowls and a few harmonica reed pieces. My buddy found a thimble and a few buttons. We're definitely going to spend a little more time there next time out.

Any chance that that is an ashtray?
Yes. I believe it is. I can't think of anything else it could be.

cool I love unique items

sure looks similar to this. I am guessing base to an inkwell or something real close:

Wow. That's interesting. Thanks for the link. Now I'm wondering if it has any significant value. Probably not in its dug condition. Seems like a lot of $$$ for an inkwell.
