Should I invest in a bigger coil for Gamma 6000?

Sounds like everyone differs on this topic. I want the best depth and separation. Only using the Gamma a few times, we have unearthed a bunch of pennies, several dimes and a quarter. Some were around 8" or so. Not sure if it'd be worth investing in a bigger coil or not. We will be hunting trashy parks quite a bit too. Thanks for your input

8" on coins is pretty good in my opinion. A larger coil should get you a bit more depth but might not be as good in the trash.

I agree with SkiWhiz. Getting a wider coil will potentially give you a little more depth, but it will make it harder to pick out targets from a trashy area since it will be harder to get the coil over only one target. If you are going to be taking the time to completely clear out an area by digging every signal, then the wider coil would be useful.

I like the 5" DD on my Gamma for trashy areas. It seperates better than the 8" concentric and doesn't give up much if any in depth. It also have less chatter at high sensitivity. The downfall is it takes a while to cover the area hunting.

All of the coils made for the Fisher F5, Fisher Gold Bugs (new), Tek G2 and the Greek series will work on the Gamma.

I've recently been using the small 6

If your relic hunting in a open field a bigger coil would be the ticket, I suggest the 5x10 ellipitcal coil, I have it on my ETP and it is great !!

Bigger is not always better. If you're detecting around any EMI, you'll have to turn down the sensitivity more when using the larger coil. That kinda defeats the purpose of having a larger coil to get extra depth. The Gamma 6000 is one sweet running machine with the 8 inch coil.
