I don't remember ever being forced to ever shovel snow in America, example sidewalks, as it was not a law that anyone do so. Seems like we do it in the USA as a good neighborly thing. Here in Germany it is the law that you clean your sidewalk or fines could be imposed, and if someone falls down because you didn't clean the walk ways in front of your house, then it's your butt they're after! People tend to walk more or ride bicycles here in Germany and do their daily shopping especially in smaller towns, large towns as well but small towns don't have the public transit as the larger towns have. I think it's a good idea especially since I have no neighbors, I have no public walkways and the town has to plow my driveway since it is a public road, sort of. I'm last on the list to be plowed, but for the price of a good bottle of wine every year, about $6.00, my driveway always gets plowed before I leave for work at 07:20 AM. Just thought I would share some cultural indifferences, I'm snowed in! HH, Mike
