No one can stop you from detecting in the water, but do not detect the beach in front of private property. You can walk along the shoreline where the water meets the beach, but you can't sit, sunbathe or use the beach in front of private property.
 
Riparian rights say that the owner on inland lakes own a pie shape to the middle of the lake, but not Lake MI.
