:shrug:SE Problem - Your Help Please

I tried a little beach detecting this morning on foggy Cape Cod, MA. After about 20 minutes the detector turned itself off. It was extremely foggy and damp - NO RAIN. I could turn the machine back on but it would only stay on for about 30 seconds. I am figuring that my new SE does not like damp conditions. I'll let it sit in the sun later today. Has anyone else had similar problems ??????

Battery pack had just came off the charger.....battery showing on screen as full....I wish it was something as simple as that but it was something I did not check at the time...Thanks for the idea....Unit seems to have dried up while in the house for 3 last hours and is now staying powered up....I am still assuming it was the fog......I am not happy the SE is that finicky because its intended use is near the ocean.

on the battery pack itself. Take a pencil eraser and rub it on the contact points. Could also be a bad battery pack. I had one on my Explorer that held the replacable batteries.(not the rechargable)and the same thing would happen to me. Caled Sandy Burton at Minelab and she sent me a new one free of charge. Yes thet do have the BEST customer service of any detector manufacturers I ever had to deal with. Hope this helps or at least points you in the right direction.

Taking your advice, I just buffed them up.... I'll see if that does the trick tomorrow. I'll also stick my alkaline pack back-up in my pocket. If the peoblem occurs again I'll swap packs. Thank you

Just my opinion this but moisture or condensation on any circuit board that does not have a protective laquer coating will cause problems, i am not sure if the board in the explorer control box is sealed with some kind of protective coating - just a guess that this could be the cause of your problems. Simplest way to check for problems like this is to use a hair dryer and blow a little warm air through the into th housing to dry it out,.

I Do Not Know If It Was The Fog.Do You Have A Rain Cover For The SE.If Yes Try Using It At The Site You Had The Problem. If The SE Stays On Then It Was The Fog.I've Hunted In Misty Weather With A Rain Cover And Never Had Any Problem.I Hope This Might Help You.
