sidewinder vs silver umax

I was listening to a couple of guy's and both were saying that there is really no difference between the two in field use....Are they right about this...

They could be right.

I think all Tesoros are very close if fitted with the same size/type of coil.

But too I have noticed some same models differ in air tests. I've had some Silver uMax detectors that would test up to 10 inches on a quarter and others that would do up to about 14 inches.

The actual ground depth may differ but there does seem to be hotter machines.

No they are not the same. They may be similar, but different.

The operating frequency of the Sidewinder is 12 kHz and the
Silver uMax is 10.6kHz or 10 kHz.

The audio response of the Sidewinder is Approx. 800 Hz and
the Silver uMax is Approx. 630 Hz.

The Sidewinder has a threshold based all metal mode and the
Silver uMax doesn't.

The Sidewinder has a red button to access the all metal mode
and the Silver uMax has a switch to access the non-threshold
based all metal mode.

Those are just the outward differences. I don't know about the
differences in actual use. But I have a Silver Sabre uMax, which
is like the Sidewinder, but the operating frequency and audio
response are still different.

All these machines are similar but do have a little different
options and response charistics.

Hope that helps,

Hope that helps,

but has no GB nor does the Silver.
