Signal Enhancers?

Mag99004

New member
Just curious what everyones impression of signal enhancers are. I've always been a bit skeptical of them and saw them as a bit gimmicky. But I had the chance to run one while using Mark's 3500 last weekend and actually like them.

It seems like all they do is increase the volume of ALL signals. But I found on a few nuggets that were nothing more than a slight break in threshold from one direction that I think I picked it up easier that I would have otherwise.

I may just me my imagination but does anyone have any more specifics on how they work and if you run them. Any recommendations/warnings on specific brands/models?

Eric

I have used a variety of signal enhancers and found them very useful with vlf and Minelab sd and gpx machines...I used depthmaster enhancers on the vlf machine, they don't do well on the Minelab PI's.
I had a enhancer from Oz-Nugget something-black box and yellow label, two coiltek enhancers and now I have one from AzOut back....I think they are worth the money, you may want to use them with Jonathan Porter's method if you are using the Minelab Pi's...Doc, the moderator of this forum has some on his website...

Fred,

Thanks for the info on what models work with the PI's and which don't. What is Porter's method of using enhancers? It must be something included in the later video's, I've only seen the first videos he came out with(GP3000).

Thanks

Eric

You can read the process on Chris Gholson's az outback site...the basic process is this, after your machine is on, set the treshold a bit louder than normal, the volume at about 1 o'clock and use the enhancer to get a comfortable sound level...the theory is that you want the enhancer to bring up the weak signals and the big/surface signals don't need enhancement...read the real deal and you will get the whole story....

I have tried many myself (4 or 5) and personally, I don't care for them. I will tell you that I do have customers who swear by them and will not detect without one. The issue I have with them is the extra sound I hear. They enhance All Sound!!! and not just a signal. Do I think they are a waste of money? Certainly Not and if you are hard of hearing, then they may be just the right ticket. Will I promise you they will find you more gold? Certainly Not, but if you are happy with it, then you will be more confident and if you are more confident, then you WILL find more gold.

I also was a doubter of the advantages of using a booster and to be honest unless you are hearing impaired then I would not advise their use with headphones. However using a booster in conjunction with a speaker is a totally different ball game and the amount of gold I have recovered on previously done ground suggests there is merit to the idea.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept I have gone into great detail on the subject in our second video titled "The Outback Prospector- The Latest Update" (available from most Minelab re-sellers in the US) on how to rig up a Minelab PI to get the most out of the system along with a detailed explanation on why I feel the concept works so well. I have also used this method with VLF machines and also a Garrett Infinium so it is not just a Minelab only option.

JP!!!!, Great to see you on this forum. Your many days and thousands of hours in the field swinging, comparing and testing detectors shows that you are always trying to find an edge over the others. Your SUCCESS and results speaks volumes of who you are. Great to see you on here and we all hope to see you stop in and chat on occasion.

I try and do the same testing on occasion.
