You just have to be lucky enough to get your Explorer coil over one of 'em

This is a great website to use if it covers your area. You can overlay from 1964 to 2005 with roads. I use this to find the old schools and parks with the oldest parts that are still intact....

It is great tool. I use it to find a logging and saw mill camp with a number of buildings that is located near my hunting camp. It also had a railroad to take the lumber to the nearest town. I did a little more research and found out that there has been a saw mill in this area since and 1817 and there was a school there. With out it I would have never known. lloyd, im looking at buying a large coil for my explorer, i have the stock pro coil now and i want something that can cover a little more ground but i want about the max depth i can get, i will be using it at an old fairgrounds/ horse track that is now a crop field, it has been hammered over the last 40 years but i still find a couple coins here and there and they are always way deep, i think from all the tilling and crop foilage, Does that 10 x 12 get better depth then a pro coil or do they make an even deeper bigger coil then that? Thanks

The 10X12 SEF in my opinion does get a little more depth than the stock 11" coil. But it's real attribute is that it is not as chattery. It's quieter and it loves dimes ! They also make a 15X12 and an 18X15 SEF as well. Too much added weight for me, and besides there is nothing worth digging that deep around these parts anyways ...

I have never tried any coil other then the 11 inch pro, i have a 6 inch excellerator on the way and i wanna buy a larger coil for a little more depth. I will say that my machine seems very erratic even with sensitivity pretty low, i have heard the the pro coils are pretty hot and i would like to calm her down a bit. I dont know how much extra weight i wanna add, this field is very quiet hunting, sometimes you can go probly close to 100 yards without a peep out of the detector and thats with manual sensitivity up around 29-30. Its been picked pretty clean and whats left is deep

I think that the 10X12 SEF would compliment your detecting arsenal quite well.

[size=large]the 8x6 sef is great in trashy areas. and deep. found my first merc dime at 8" with it. and we have very minerlized ground here in the great northwest. as for silver in or from china. it was found to be just real shiny lead knock-offs. just like everything else coming from china.
