Unfortunately, very little action
Been hunting some very stingy east bay demo sites over the past month with the east bay boys. One of them I thought for sure was going to be great, as it had been covered with asphalt since around the 1940's and dated back to around the 1870's. I had delusions of grandeur that it would be a virgin site with fist fulls of silver popping out with every swing of the detector once they scraped out the asphalt. Unfortunately all they did was remove the asphalt but not the 6" of hard packed crushed rock under the asphalt, so it turned out to be slim pickin's
: At any rate, on to the finds (1906 Barber and signet ring came from up north).
Got my first 1901-S Barber, but she's pretty rough. Also a 1903 Barber, 1942-S Merc, 1964 Roosevelt and a 1941 Washington quarter that I thought I scratched while digging, but the scratch marks have patina on them, so someone else had the honors. Also 1916-D and 1928-S Buffalos.
1900, 1901, 1906 & 1908 Injuns:
I found this little bar pin, it has a gold face with a silver back and pin. Weird item, any ideas what it was for :think: Also got this small 10K mens signet ring up north, it was a really iffy signal, bouncing from high iron to foil on my F75 (probably cause it's cut?). Someone must've loved their ring, it's so worn that the signet was worn off:
At one spot Nightray pulled out four tokens and I got one. It's marked B. BERCOVICH. On Richard's Token Database it has this data about it (he claims it's in the Kappen book), but I have not idea what business it was for other then it appears to have been a SF Bay Area business:
B. BERCOVICH / & / CO.
B. Bercovich / & / Co. (also b. bercovich // bifacial)
NMCD: Location: San Francisco (tams), Oakland (cack), San Jose (tams), California (kappen Says All)
What post would be complete without old marbles finds (I love that flow-blue bennie
)
And lastly the do-dads. It's a bummer that Victorian silver ring was smashed flat, it would've been a cool ring. Interesting little lock, it was silver plated at one time. That scalloped do-dad gave me a thrill for a few seconds, I thought for sure it was going to be a neat old scalloped trade token, but all hopes were dashed when I thumbed the soil off of it and saw that it was a
