Silver & Gold

Boy it was cold out today but I had to try and sneak in probably one of the last few days of detecting until spring, Off to a local park and the first location that we picked I found a few coins and after about 25 minutes it appeared as though a group of people had reserved that location so we had to move on.

At the next location my first target was a memorial penny and much to my surprise my second target turned up the oldest coin that I have ever found in this particular park system, a 1916 Merc. After digging a few wheats and some modern clad nearly 45 minutes later the ole 705 was barking at me on low battery. I was just about to leave that area and move on when suddenly I got a dime signal and ending up pulling up a 1944 merc and in the same hole was a wheat and a 1943 nickel. I was ready to move on but I need to hit that area again sometime.

We drove to a 3rd location and I put in some fresh batteries. My first target, a nickel signal and up comes a 14KT white gold wedding band! There were some initials inside along with a date. Needless to say if this ends up being the last time I get out for the year, I can't complain.

Beautiful! Great day. I'm looking at the snow on the ground and already wishing for spring..........

Congrats on the Gold and Silver!! On the 1916 Merc is their a D mint mark by any chance? Beale.

The 1944 has a D mint mark but no mark on the 1916. I'm not much of a coin collector other than the stuff that I find but I just looked up what the D could have been worth. The site that I went to listed it as $375. I guess I'm going to have to hunt that area a little better and see what else is there. Not sure if back then it was very feasible for Denver minted coins to make it this far East but there's always hope.

Good job on those coins and ring. We're going into summer now over this part of the world (Australia) and rains have arrived so the grounds are nice and soft.

All the best to you

Cheers
