Mud,

I don't know what happened with my post above, but now that I go back and look I see it only posted a few words and I know it was there when I push the button. So here goes again and I am looking right at it.

Well for sure I was not expecting a half so I was not being real careful, so this is a long sad story. But after my first 2 hunts in that area of woods I was thinking a small shovel back there would hurt anything. So I had a small folding shovel in the truck and I got it out and put a nice edge on the blade and thought I would put it in a back pack. That part worked fine, but I have never used a shovel for detecting before so I had the blade folded at 90 degrees using it like a hoe. I took out a few pennies like that but they were hard to find in the dirt I took out of the hole.
Now I still had not learned about the shovel yet when I got to the half. Then I did not believe what the detector was trying to tell me either. From time to time I will get good high number readings and good tone and all but for the last 30 years or so they are never good targets, so why should I think this one was any different. I do not remember the number the detector was giving me, but it was well above a quarter and my confidence meter was saying I am not kidding. So I just took a nice whack and scraped out the half. I did not notice the scratch until I got home and cleaned the dirt off it. You know now I was being careful I did not want to scratch the coin by rubbing the dirt off with my finger.

I can see that happening!...Still, thats a great find, that tiny little nick adds some character to your trophy, you made your mark on it, and you will always remember the circumstances of that amazing find when you look at it over the years...so I think its good..

Thanks mud, I will try to be more careful the next 30 years or so.

I tried to answer your post question right after you ask, but for some reason it didn't post but the first 3 or 4 words. Must be something to do with Word, I typed it there and copied and pasted it.

You know that some of you keep throwing me into finding that half, well if It had my "Mark" on it then it would have been in my finds pouch, not Ron's! LoL!

Nice Find!
And a long time coming.
