Went with my friends Roy, his son Zach, and Tripp to a nearby City Park that they are refurbishing. We met up even though we were going to have to hunt in between rain showers. They had the whole parking lot graded up leaving strips of gravel and dirt between piles of asphault. Roy and Zach were already hunting a couple of the strips and had found some wheats. I chose the strip in the middle and was using the Minelab X-terra 705 with my new 8" HF DD Coil that I purchased from Chuck at Indian Nation Detectors. My very first good signal was a nice high tone and a 36/38 VDI. I really thought it was going to be a wheat like my friends had already found and it was incased in asphalt tar so I couldn't really tell when I first dug it. I got enough of the tar off the reverse of the coin and immediately saw that it was a Merc. I found a water puddle and cleaned it enough to see 1924 but couldn't see if there was a mint mark. The coin was not in very good shape ( I guess being buried under asphalt for 80+ years took it's toll). I got it home and once I realized it was not a valuable coin, I cleaned it up a little bit. Really was having a bad RA day and had to leave earlier than I want but had a great day other than that. Hunting with friends is always a lot of fun !!!
