Since James ND got a little head while detecting it got me thinking: Is it time for us all to post pics of our nuts??? :yikes:

Now that I've got your attention: one of the things I admire and have found very helpful on the Beach and Water Detecting forum is that most guys will show a picture of their "nut." What's a nut you say? It's a picture of everything that was dug during that particular outing. Too often we see a guy post a pic of an array of silver coins and other nice finds, but never on this forum do we see how much junk (pull tabs, can slaw, pop tops, screw tops, etc.) the guy had to dig in order to find that nice stuff. I think it would benefit many of us to see what other are digging as a whole - are they digging every signal or are they just consistently finding good targets. I suspect that it's somewhere in between for most, but it would still, I believe, be of great value to see a picture of your nuts! :surprised: You know what I mean! :lmfao:

Erik i think this is a good idea it would show the new detectorists it"s not all silver in the bottom of our holes.

get to be Very Large and most likely will not fit on the Scanner Glass. I would say I dig anywhere between 50-100 Junk Targets each day (if not more) while detecting. Screw Caps, Can Slaw, Pull Tabs, Copper Wire, Misc. Junk, Crown Caps, you name it. If it sounds good and it is possibly a Coin, I dig it, even if the ID is off just a bit. It also gives me a chance to see what the item is and hopes of pulling a Gold Ring but hasn't happened yet this year. But yes, it would be interesting to see some Nuts posted after a persons hunt, just as long as they are the appropriate Nuts we are talking about. Good Luck and HH.

I bet your pouch gets swollen.

HERE ARE SOME NUT PICTURES FROM A COUPLE OF MONTHS BACK WHEN I FIRST GOT THE EX II .MY PERCENTAGES HAVE IMPROVED WITH USE.NOW USING SE PRO AND LOVE IT!

Thanks for posting the pics - I think these types of pictures add a lot more color to the story and are quite helpful to everyone here. Looks like you are doing quite well - congrats!

I think it helps to show the reality of what someone has to go through to get the good stuff

That's why I use a Leather Pouch, so my Nut doesn't bust out of the Pouch. Get's to be full at least once if not twice during one hunt so a lot of Trash. Good Luck and HH.

I have yet to purchase one but hopefully in the future. Then you can see just how big my Nuts are after a days detecting, if not 2 days worth. Their BIG!!!

Shows just how much Junk one digs in recovering the Goodies. Excellent Finds as well! You're doing good so keep it up. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

When I am hunting in parks, schools, etc., I rarely dig a whole lot of trash. I have had many days of digging 20+ old coins and less than 10 pieces of trash.

If I am in a field or house site it can be a whole different ball game. In fields a generally dig every signal that's not iron and house sites I get more into digging nickels, so that means more trash.

Well, I am new here at this site. I have been using an OLD "Bounty Hunter" that my husband bought as a gift to me. He only paid $20.00 for it! Yes, I have found tons of trash but I didn't know that it was called "Nuts". Imagine that, a woman with nuts! Anyway, my old Bounty Hunter has paid for itself a couple times over! Not only several coins (mostly new, but a few older ones in the 1800's) but also on one hunt I found a 14K wedding band (very wide and heavy), a ghetto ring (silver plated) a few old watches and of course some nuts. I love my old Bounty Hunter, but thought since I did so well with this antique with out any instructions that I would do better with a newer MD and an instruction manual! Well, that wasn't the case. My new MD (and I won't go into details on make or model at this time) hasn't done much for me at all! Mostly nuts and just a few newer coins. I am glad I found this site! I will be watching and learning!

Thanks for joining the forum - nice to see a woman posting here (wish I could get my wife to metal detect - she hates it!) especially one with a good sense of humor ("imagine that, a woman with nuts!" :puke:). BTW, the nut is everything that you dig on a particular outing - the good stuff and the junk. I thought it would be a good idea to show pictures of our nuts here :yikes: so that people can see what other people here dig in order to get the good stuff. Too often people just show a bunch of old coins and it looks like they just went out and dug just those coins and nothing else when in reality there were a lot of targets dug to get to the good stuff. They almost always show their nuts on the Beach forum.

Well since you're on the Explorer forum I'm guessing that you either got an Explorer or are considering getting one. I had a Garrett 2500 when I first started detecting and usually dug a bunch of clad and junk with it. I was very frustrated at never really finding anything good. That changed when I got the Explorer back in 1999.

Anyway, as I said - welcome - please jump right in with any questions that you may have about detecting!

Regards, Erik

I hunt old sites, not much new trash.

And to me, that looks like a lot of great Treasure you found (OK, maybe there is a few Trash Items in there but for the most part, lots of interesting Items). Anything Old is Treasure to me so keep up the good work. Good Luck and HH on your next outing.:detecting:

Bob, I would be proud to put most of that in my display case.....BTW, what is that item inside the ring in the last picture? I found something similar several years back and haven't positively identified it.

Hi Eric, Thanks for such a warm welcome! I fell on this site about two weeks ago. I am a novice at this although I've had a detector for several years. I didn't know there were SO many different brands! I don't own an Explorer but with all the finds I have seen on this board maybe I need one! I actually started out with one of those bright orange Radio Shack toys! Had fun with that so my husband bought me an "upgrade" to a used Bounty Hunter Track 2-D/207. He only paid $20.00 for it and I had a good time finding all kinds of stuff. Most everything I have found has been only 1 to 2 inches deep. Except for a gold wedding band I found in the rocks on the beach. It was about 4 inches down. That has been my best find. I thought that since I did so well with the old Bounty Hunter without an owners manual that I would upgrade. I got a Whites Blue Max 950 Classic. It is waterproof so I have enjoyed using that on the beach but have never found anything of value with it. So, I am here to learn. Thanks again for the welcome!

Hi Susan! It sounds like you did well with the Bounty Hunter as a starter detector - certainly got your money's worth out of it. It also sounds like you now know that you like the hobby and want to continue with it. As far as I'm concerned life is too short to not detect with the best detector out there - which is the Minelab Explorer. You're in a great area - lots of civil war relics and old coins in GA. If you look at the other pages for other manufactrers you will see that the finds don't compare to what you see on this page. I started out with a Garrett 2500 about 9 years ago which was Garrett's flagship model - I used it for about 6 months and found tons of clad coins in the first 6", but never found anything deeper than that. I wasn't finding any silver coins which frustrated me. Someone on the Garrett forum heard my complaints and recommended the Minelab as a much deeper machine - he was right and the finds started coming in. I think I found about 60 silver coins in my first year with the Explorer which is a lot less than some of the guys do here. If the price tag of the Explorer is an issue - then look for a used Minelab XS - there's not difference between the XS, II, SE, and SE Pro........sounds like you might want to keep the Bounty Hunter or Whites as a backup or for a friend to hunt with - you could probably sell the other one on eBay. See if you can get a SunRay X-1 probe on the Explorer, a Vibra-Probe, and a Lesche digger - in my opinion these accessories are a must for any detectorist. They will help improve your recovery rate dramatically and if you're like me you want to maximize the little precious time that you have to detect and recover as many targets as possible. You can always call my friend Lynn at Metal Detector Depot - great guy with great prices and a great guy to deal with plus free shipping on your orders......he'll hook you up and may even be able to find used gear for you. Once you get a better machine you can re-hit all the parks and places that you've already hit and you'll be really surprised at all of the cool stuff that you left behind.

Being in the South you may want to read Richard Walker's new book entitled "Relics and Reminiscing" (see the ad banner on the Relics forum here) you'll feel like you just went to Disney Land and you see what a treasure trove of great CW relics you have all around you. Anyway, I hope you'll be a regular contributor here and post some of your finds that you've already made. Drop me a message through the message link if you have any questions, etc. Regards, Erik in NJ
