Hubby and i took our motorcycles for a ride and had the 705 with the new 3 KHZ coil strapped on the back of his bike. It was bungie corded horizontally to the back rest. We went to a park where there didn't seem to be much to find, and started back home over a rural black top road. Had just rounded a turn, about 45 mph, entering the straight away, when a deer jumped out in front of him. I'm riding behind on my 250, watching this horrific accident unfold. He locks up the brakes and the bike goes over on it's left side and he goes over the handlebars, facefirst, as he and the bike slide for 40 feet. He had to be taken to the ER, via ambulance, but thank God it was only two very painful but broken ribs and scrapes to the knees and wrist. If he hadn't been wearing his full face helmet his face would have been hamburger, because the helmet was just ground up. So, praise God because it happened near people who called the ambulance, and came and blocked traffic, otherwise i couldn't have got help without leaving him in the road (left cell phone at home)
Anyway, after all the ER stuff, we didn't get to go home till 1:30 p.m., we slept in this morning, and this afternoon went back to the scene to look at the bike. I finally thought about the metal detector that was strapped on the back of his wrecked bike....
The neighbors at the scene had pushed the bike into a garage for safekeeping. The metal detector was intact, nothing bent. I removed the bungie cords, took it off the bike and turned it on. It works. I looked at bottom of the coil that i've only had a week...the skid plate is pretty scratched up...i sure didn't do that on park grass, LOL. The coil end of the detector scraped the blacktop during the wreck, but obviously the bungie cords allowed the detector to give, and not have all the bikes weight and pressure against the pavement. I bet that wasn't what they had in mind when they made skid plates, but it sure saved that coil LOL. Just like the full face helmet save my husband's face and probably his life.
I just praise God over and over though, because even though bad things do happen, it always seems to happen for the best. My husband was spared, there was good caring people on the scene, and who knows...hitting that deer may have prevented him from hitting a car on down the road. Happy hunting, all, be safe, and God Bless.
