How come everyone says the Quattro is slow. Can minelab upgrade the software like thay did for the explorer II.

From my experience with the Quattro, and from the consensus of most users, the slow recovery speed of which you speak is not generally seen as a "deficit", but a "characteristic". It DOES require a slow sweep speed and has a slower recovery when going from one target to another. But as a result, it also tends to lock on harder to deeper targets and gets depth that borders on incredible in many types of hunting. SO I wouln't be looking for a software upgrade for THAT reason, though I suppose it's "do-able".

I agree with you on it being a "characteristic" of the Quattro with the slow recovery speed that makes it maybe even more special. I notice when going over a good target, then a trash one even if it is disc out will read as the first target, but now it it sees trash first where it will null then a good target it will read correctly just like a fast recovery as it is not slow when going from iron to a good target.
Because the Quattro does this is why the learning curve is a bit different, so you have to learn how to adapt to it instead of figuring how you can get Minelab to make the Quattro adapt to you.The Quattro may have somethings the Explorer don't even have, one being with the slow recovery we are seeing as you say Mike some great lock on of deep targets and some better IDing of those deeper ones. I know when I had mine I seen a few targets that locked on and ID better than the Explorer on those that were 10 plus inches deep. If the tone would have been adjustable I probably would still have it, but the tones were just too high pitched for me and my bad hearing.

This will speed up the recovery a bit and help a lot too.

The Quattro, like the Explorer XS/II works best at an ultra slow sweep. The nulling over trash and subsequent recovery time necessitates this slow sweep.

You can switch to High Density Trash which dramatically speeds up recovery time but at the risk of losing the deepest targets.
