Small find from Friday

JT in Virginia

New member
Went out for an hour after work on Friday and found this nice dropped Sharps bullet. Hope you enjoy the pics and thanks for looking.

Hi JT, I like the photos, they're very clear & sharp. Just wondering what camera do you use? I also haven't seen a photo of the Grey Ghost head phones. I've read a lot about them. The signals you hear from the Quattro, with them, are they as distinct as with the Koss head phones.? I use Koss, but I'm wondering if the really tiny, somtimes hard to hear signals might be more amplified with your brand of Grey Ghosts. I don't know if I can buy them in Australia, maybe through the net. Thanks for replying.

Golden, the camera is an Olympus 5.0 MP digital camera. I think it was the cheapest one they had I paid about $150.00 for it a year or so ago. About the headphones, I also have the Koss UR30 and Koss QZ99 headphones but I prefer the Gray Ghost Deep Woods headphones. It

Yea, I'm interested in the headphone conversation too.:|I have the Koss phones I bought from Kellyco. So far one of the sides has gone out and the cord stretched from 3 feet to around 8 feet long. What a pain in the butt, but other than all that, they're comfortable and seem to pick up the signals ok. I just don't want to mess with that long stretched out cord and the breaking down of one of the earphones. That's rediculous in my eyes, for the money you pay for them. I think I'm going with the Grey Ghost once I get some bucks again. Marc Trainor.

Jt, even though you only paid a bill and a half for that camera, it looks great. Ain't it amazing how good the technology is these days?:|Thanks for sharing that info. Marc Trainor.

Hi JT, I went to a detecting competition a few weeks back, and my head phones decided to karc it. I had a guy look at them for me to fix, but they had shorted out right along the cord, so I was lucky I didn't short out my detector. Anyway, I'm in the market for another set, and next time I'm in town, will be enquiring about the grey ghosts. I do like the idea of a head set with no plug in leads. Have you heard of anything like that before?

Golden, I'm all ears, (gee get the pun) on this headphone thing. I hate my phones, and I've also been thinking about going for the wireless ones. The big deal, I've read about those, is, they can have problems picking up stray radio signals, and cause some spurious noises, and such, but I may still, look further into it, and/or try to borrow one and use it or even take the chance, to buy it, because they'd probably be able to do double duty as a home stereo unit also, if the frequency's were up to par. I'm thinking that, as long as you didn't have to much local radio or power line influence, like on a lone beach somewhere, MAYBE, they'd be ok. Gee, how nice would it be not to have to deal with that pesky cord issue, every time you go to dig a target. I'm certainly open to any comments on all this. Marc Trainor.

Marc, Koss headphones have a lifetime warranty on them. Try calling Koss at (800)872-5677. They will fix or replace them for you. -Bonnie-

Thanks Bonnie. I forgot about that. Your right, but I think down the road I'd still like to get a more reliable brand, and get the Koss ones fixed and just keep them for a spare. Thanks for the info. Marc.

Hello Beachguy. If you contact Koss in your country (on the web site) for about $6.00 postage they will replace your headphones for nothing no questions asked period. I had mine replaced by Minelab because the Australian agent wouldn

As a personal preference I find using headphones inconvenient and a hassle when I need to lay the detector down to dig and then return to searching. So I rummaged through my audio connector junk box and found a double ringed phono plug that matched the Quattro's internal audio contact points. I tried different earpieces from another junk box and found one that matched the Quattro's audio impedance and had a sufficient convenient length from the Quattro to my ear. I cut off the mini earpiece connector and soldered the wires to the appropriate audio connector. Then I made a strain relief and taped the exposed soldered wires. To make a good audio plug contact interface I had to use a box cutter to remove the molded hole in the rubber weatherproof cover. It basically performed no weatherproof function as the open plug hole still was there when covered. The earpiece modification works great with no loss in audio quality or volume and weighs almost nothing. But if you don't have good hearing you probably should stick with headphones as one ear remains exposed.

FYI not all double ringed audio connectors or earpieces will work with the Quattro. One similar earpiece configuration I made for a XLT will not work on the Quattro due to a slight difference in interal physical contact points and probably a different impedance. It's a trial and error process modification but I found it to be well worth it.

Well, my Koss head phones broke down while on the detecting competition in March, and now, my other spare has broken down also, another Koss I might mention. Both have had extensive use, and I was very happy with them. The warrenty's run out on mine, so time to get a new set! But hey Stan, mine look in better nick than yours! Not as worn looking!
Golden:)
