Small pile of clad..

Uncle Willy

New member
Went out about 5 PM with limited time. Hit a small local park close to home. Didn't find squat in the tot lot or around the picnic tables. Found one quarter in the grass around the tot lot. Made a pass at the soccer field and found one quarter. I decided I wasn't leaving till I found at least a buck so I decided on the " creep and sweep" and " take root and dig" routine. Picked out a spot in the shade next to some trees that stood next to a cyclone fence separating the park from the city sidewalk.

I mentally gridded out a 10' x 10' section. I started at the corner, standing in one spot, sweeping very slow in a figure eight pattern, going back and forth over the same piece of ground before moving forward for the next swing. Using this slow, methodical, method, I pulled all but two of these coins out of that 10'x10' section. All of the coins were deep ( 6-8 inches ) and could have been easily missed scanning fast and wide. I left several pennies behind as I had decided only to dig nickels and higher. So all these coins but two came out of that little patch in a matter of minutes. This is what can happen when you take your time.

Thanks UW. I'm gonna go out and try that now. Nice little pile of loot you got there.:garrett:

Nice hunt!:thumbup:Which machine were you using? CX or ACE? Just curious. Hey $2.22. I might try that some time,........too. Happy Hunting!:)

Looks like this method really works for you. I'm really having to force myself to slow down my swing, but I'll get it. Not sure why we all want to go so fast. Maybe because everything else in life is so fast-paced nowdays?

Hi, older guys go slower. At least I have slowed down over the years. I have found I am much more methodical and diligent then before. Of course there is less good stuff to find then even ten years ago which, in my case, requires more thought. Then too, carrying a fifteen inch screwdriver and pin pointer weigh me down some.

Nice going Bill. Guess I will add the figure eight pattern to my bag of techniques.
Don't think I ever tried that one. Anyhow, I am glad you got out and got your
detector fix for the day. HH Gene

Since goodies are more scarce now it's to one's benefit to slow down and get those few targets that are left. Those coins in my post have been in the ground for a long time and most likely missed numerous times by speedy swingers. Some of them ( depending on depth ) may just emit a light blip. If you don't stop and analyze that blip you could leave a coin behind.

Yeah if you ain't in a big hurry it can up your coin count. Some years ago I was testing a detector for Troy Galloway and I was at this high school football field. I hit the field a bit and determined it had been hit hard and was shy of goodies. THen I looked down at the end of the field and and saw this big piece of ground across the track at the end of the field where a bunch of football equipment and folded up bleachers were stored. It was so unappealing I knew it hadn't been hit so I hit it and worked it slow and pulled nearly seven bucks out of that ugly patch of grass.

I am glad you mentioned it Bill, This is something that I definitely will use.
You know all the tricks !

Good thinking Bill. The figure eight pattern is definitely in my brain now.
Another great tip from the master. Thanks for telling us Bill.

Hey thanks Uncle Willy:happy:That 1500 is a great machine, but I'm just hooked on my true all metal on MH or 2500:detecting:Happy Hunting!:)
