So i went over to the woods down the street from my home, I planned on detecting for an hour or so until the bugs went crazy, So i decided lets do a speed hunt, In 15 minutes I dug up these two items. Back in those woods years ago there used to be an old railway system until it was shutdown some maybe 15+ years ago. Im honestly not sure what the items are but I can only assume they are a part of the old railway. Junk or history, Im not sure, Yet i think for 15 minutes it was a fine little dig. Hoping int he next few days when the bugs are not as bad to head back for more!

maybe an old railway spike.
one of my favorite places to hunt is deep in the woods.
depending on where you are it can be very rewarding and offer up some of the most interesting finds.
if you know of old history such as the railway you mentioned. that area could pop up some nice old things for you.
railways where not only used by trains but by 1000`s of foot travelers moving from town to town .
railways are still a very common way for transients to move from place to place.
and have always been a great place to hunt. good luck on the next outing to your spot.
give it a little time and it should offer up some nice things ...

H.H.

I could not find much info on the items, i assume the idea of railway spikes is correct, but I did find some interesting info. One of my family members came here in the early 1970's and even then the railway was shutdown. I have no idea where the railway went, Living 20 minutes from Chicago you can only assume that's where it went....Who knows what I can find back there!
