SMART Move Today :detecting::jump::detecting:

[size=large]I got to take the SMART out today for a couple of hours. The area that I started hunting was a blanket of small iron / nails. With the detector in 2 tone, the first thing you notice is the audio, almost like a synthesized sound. As I went over the ground, the high tone would "jump-out" from the low tone, a very pronouced audio. I have had other "unmaskers" in this site and they didn't "see" these targets but now all of a sudden the site is alive again. I turned the sensitivity down since a lot of the targets weren't that deep, just hidden. Even at the lower setting, I was able to find some deep targets. At 15.5 khz, this detector loves brass, lead, and nickels. The small faucet screen that is shown in the photo was at 5" and the audio was clean and crisp. I don't know if the other detectors just "didn't like" this category of non-ferrous targets like the SMART, but for some reason this detector excells. Some targets were masked in 3 directions, I had to back the coil out to where the audio disappeared and then dig the target. That would mean that new targets would be found by hunting in other directions. I did take the detector in a cleaner area and the pinpointer worked as it should. If you want a detector to take to a "hunted-out" site, this is the machine. The distintive audio grows on you and you soon appreciate that a smooth high tone is going to be a good target. I did get some iron signals that came in as high tones but they weren't clean or if I widened the swing a little, I could hear some distortion. I will try to get out some more and let you know more about the SMART.
Thanks Richard

Hey Richard, nice hunt and good description of your hunt with the Smart. Gunnar did a video with the Vista Gold that shows how some nails and ferrous targets will high tone when swept over quickly, but if you drag the coil back off of the signal and just barely pass over the target slowly with just the edge of the coil then the ferrous will low tone. If passed over the center of the coil it will either high tone or give a mixed signal. Will the Smart also do this? It is a great tip that saves digging a lot of ferrous...Stuart

Definitely a smart move!
I got myself the vista Smart in February this year.
It sniffs out the goodies amongst iron better then my XP GMP and Golden Mask 1+.
In fact, in all its simplicity I see the Vista Smart as a highly specialised machine for old Roman and medieval fields. There's really no need for VDI, bells & whistles on such fields, just speed and performance. Dig everything above iron and you'll miss nothing.:cheers:

Richard , you got to do some video, of live hunt , it is true the Iron can give some high tone but its way different from a good target The bulgarians Got all that is crucial on the detectors , they are super unmaskers,

Have you run the Racer with the OOR coil through this area? Some tout the Racer as the coup de grâce to cleaning out an area with lots of iron. Thanks - Jim

Richard did you use the Super Six coil this trip? I find the Super Six works very well on my Smart. Have not tried my 5" round coil yet. Just too many detectors.

Wow I am highly impressed with the Vsmart and its capabilities. Thanks - Jim
