I found this item that appears to be a some kind of label plate.
The back has the remains of what appears to be a peened rivet of some kind.
I am assuming it is from Southern Pacific Railroad or an affiliated company.
I found it in an old sidewalk repair site.

Any ideas what this may be?

I was thinking possibly the same thing.

It is 5/8" high by just a little under 2" long and is a little rounded on the ends.
It is just under a 1/4" thick.

Thanks for looking.

Boy do I wish I had spent more time in the mud that morning.
Maybe I would have found the entire lock.
