not to say im not finding things...rusty nails...tinfoil
Ive been sweeping my yard getting a feel for the Ace250
I get a hit ..50 cent or a dollar piece about 6 inchs down
I dig a foot with out me or the handheld pinponter seeing anything
I live in the colorado mountians, no such thing as a "nice" yard up here
the Ace still saying metal ...6 inchs down
I can get a pinpoint mode signal and hold the thing up in the air and it will still be squealing

about the only thing of interest ive found in the yard is this...dunno what it is though

Normally, the signal you are getting would indicate a large, deep piece of iron. You can use pinpoint to see how large the target is by holding the button down to trace around the target. You can also hold the coil about a foot of the ground, and if it still beeps and says one dollar at 6" move on, unless you are curious to see what it is. If you are curious,grab a shovel and go-for-it. You never know, it might be a cool relic or aluminum siding. It might drive you crazy if you don't find out.

Ive passed over other signals like it after digging a few inchs with no find
this is a bit with no grass (the moles or voles or what ever it is digging tunnels took care of that)
so I decided to go for china and see whats up with the ace and these signals

Welcome to the forum!This is a wonderful community and a great place to share info!Sorry to see that you are having some troubles with the Ace 250. I'm no expert with the machine, but it sounds to me like either the ground conditions are too mineralized for it to handle, or there is/are some rather large and deep iron/metal piece(s) making the machine signal.There are many knowledgeable Ace users here that can chime in. Hunting in backyards can be challenging sometimes. They often contain junk targets, ie-building materials bits & pieces along with nails. You also have power lines, cable lines, telephone lines which can sometimes interfere with your machine. It's best to always hunt with the sensitivity cranked up as high as possible. But sometimes, too much sensitivity also picks up other components such as those just mentioned.


Try turning down your sensitivity, and you may actually get even a little more depth overall. Good luck. Things get much better with practice.

That happens everywhere I hunt and is why I ALWAYS lift the coil nearly a foot when pinpointing.. Besides making it easier to pinpoint, it lets me know the probable size of the object. Another clue-at least in my area- is the signal usually registers "dime" and can still give a signal at 8-10"-sometimes more. Heck, I even pinpoint in motion with the coil raised this high. l'm doing this to get ready for competition hunts and don't want to bother with the pinpoint button.

You are probably finding trash piles in your yard or as stated have heavy mineralized soil. I can go through my yard and it is dead quiet then all of a sudden the machine is ringing every chime you can imagine. Trash piles though can reveal neat items so I would check them out. It is in your yard right? Dig as if you found gold. You just might find a neat little item.

Those signals are most likely aluminum cans or other large bits of aluminum scrap. There are a ways of working out if it's a larger than coin target. You can either lift the coil 6 inches. If you still have a strong signal, then it's going to be bigger than a coin. Another simple method is to pinpoint the target, then detune the pinpoint (by releasing and repressing the pinpoint button again). A large target will null (go silent). a coin will sound off on the front half of the inner coil.

Beginning to think there is a problem here...settings or detector
for one it seems Ive stopped finding even the nails
i dug a test hole (about 5 inchs) and put coins in one at a time
diff sensitivity levels...diff modes...hole open or buried
one in 5 slow or faster swings it will hit as a nickle.
once did it hit as what I put in the hole
On a air test it does hit at about 4 inchs and closer at what im waving
I read somewhere to reset the machine, hold the power button for about 5 seconds
listen for a series of beeps, no difference after doing that either.

Increase your sensitivity. At 3 bars, it may well miss a coin at 5 inches. Set if from 4 to 6 bars. If the ground is mineralised, Knock out the bottom 3 notches of discrimination and set your sensitivity to 5 bars. Even if the detector is falsing on bad ground, you should still get a solid hit on a coin.
