soda-cap trick

I took the Deus out to the park for a bit yesterday and for about the first hour I was digging a lot of bottle/soda caps. I tried two methods that I was told to use to identify caps. After about an hour I dug very few caps. One method was to lift the coil and watch for the ID to drop and the second was to sweep over the target with the front of the coil and then back off the target (if target sounds solid its not a cap). I found the first to be more accurate but both worked.

On another note, when trying to reduce the SEN and adjusting the GB the minus button would work intermittently. I tried again this morning bc I thought maybe there was dirt on the button but I saw no obstructions. I sent my CTX in a week ago for repairs and I don't need more problems. Any ideas on the Deus? Thanks

You sure it is not just you needing to push harder? Mine is like that unless I press harder than I figure.....LOL

The positive button works with little pressure but the minus side no matter how much force would not change the numbers, this was intermittent as stated earlier.

The buttons do seem to be intermittent at times I've found. I have to press the lower section of the button to get it to work properly sometimes. On the bottle cap problem, if you increase the silencer the problem will go away. I tried this yesterday in a park filled with bottle caps and it worked great.

How did the machine respond to the caps with the higher silencer? I think that the silencer setting on my mchine was 1.

Higher silencer settings will "chop" steel bottlecap signals but the signal won't change much if it's a coin. Also with higher silencer settings you will lose a slight bit of depth and deeper targets aren't detected as well when they pass just into and out of the detector's field. So it's easier to miss coins and good targets with higher silencer settings (over 2), but in the trash you will save a lot of frustrating digging!

I've learned too that the control box doesn't like cold weather at all when trying to use the buttons. My box is inside an Iphone armband case and when the temp is below 30*F I really have to mash hard on the buttons to get it to switch programs, etc. Above 50*F there's no problem. Seems like the warmer the day is the more responsive the controls are...

I use the tip of my finger. I think this is normal and an issue with the controller.

I played around with the control box a bit more yesterday and found that using the tip of my finger worked except for the GB. It still had the same problem. If I held the button down the GB would reduce slowly but I had to press many times just to get it to change.

Anyhow, hopefully I can get out and experiment with the silencer. Thanks for the replies.

Hey jspeedy--
Perhaps you didn't notice, but GB has increments of <1 so the digits don't change with every push. I believe that the GB moves in .25 increments as seen by a small 4 segment bar below the whole number value!

If you knew that already, my apologies.

Hence the dots below the number, understood. Thanks.
