I had one of these turkeys at that time and it wouldn't find a cannon ball in a tub of oatmeal and soured me on Bounty Hunters forever.

Frankly, they 'aint a whole lot better, yet.

It seems I have heard that. :) I had one of the more modern ones awhile back that I took on trade. It was one of their top of the line and I wasn't at all thrilled with it.

And it aint that they won't find stuff - the electronic part of detection isnt that hard to figure out. Or copy.

To me its the "cheesy" nature of them and the less-than-rugged construction. But we musn't engage in slamming other products now, eh? It just wouldn't be right...

Yea, Bounty Hunter makes some cheap detectors for Walmart.
Actually for what you get they arn't that cheap price wise. They also continue to
make them for Radio Shack but you have
to get those via online. STILL, there are alot of people on the Bounty Hunter
Forum that swear by the more expensive models. The 3300 is still considered
by a lot of people to be a good machine and still sells. Dicks Sporting goods still
carry that model along with some other of Bounty Hunter's models.
People usually stick with what they know or start out with. If they find some
nice stuff they think their detector is the best brand out there. Guess I'm the
same way. I'll stick with Garrett and Whites. I am still considering playing with the
Silver uMax though.

I have used a bounty hunter for the last 5 or 6 years. The discovery 2200 is a low to mid level Bounty Hunter product. I liked it alot and still do. I just bought a ace 250 basically because it was for sale for a great price.

Its still a little early for me too compare them, since I don't know the Ace nearly as well as I do the 2200. Acually I'm not sure if I am doing the right thing by leaving the 2200 at home and trying to give the ace a shot. But for some reason I am.

I have found some great stuff wt the 2200. What I can say about it is . It is a very light machine and easy to use. Since that model has no pin point it is very fast also. Any thing 5" or less ,make a X ,look at ID and depth and dig.How fast that can be done is amazing. Not to say it won't go deeper just saying it is awsome in that range.

I do think at this point the Ace will pick up a coin deeper than the 2200 and wt better ID.

I do like the ace. Been thinking maybe I should use the 2200 at schools, where depth is not an issue, and the ace when coin hunting. (I mean for the old stuff).

For now I am going to use the ace for all. If for no other reason than to learn it well.
