Some experiences from my vacation.....

...I stopped at a McD's for some coffee in Houghton, when I got in there;they had KETCHUP I thought spilled all over the counters...I asked them What Happened??and the manager said"Nothing-we use this to clean the counters"....:confused:I said YOU'RE KIDDING;RIGHT??He said no-It was then I noticed they had hammered copper counter-tops,where people give their orders, and he told me the acid in the ketchup keeps the copper cleaner than anything they've tried...Talk about learning something new every day!!!On another, probably only negative note of the whole vacation;I went into a gift shop in Copper Harbor run by a couple of swedish people-I asked the guy in there if he had heard about that Wall of Silver mine supposedly around there-His answer??He snorted and said derisively YEAH-WHAT A LOAD!!!-THEY'LL NEVER SELL THAT BOOK!!I then told him I bought a copy, and he rolled his eyes and said something on the line of"THAT figures!!".I thought OK;whatever...THEN;I was walking out when the woman there tells me"We got gold jewelry on sale today,sir"....I mentioned the ring I found that was worth $1,000.00;and SHE snorts and says"THATS ALL?? I SELL 'EM ALL DAY FOR THAT-AND MORE!!"...I think she was miffed I didnt buy anything.I just looked at her, shook my head, and said have a nice day,and hit the door...On another positive note, the next day I drove up Brockway Mountain Drive, and stopped at a gift shop called the Skytop Inn,and struck up a con-fab with the guy running the place.I asked him if he had heard about that "Wall of Silver Mine"story, and he said oh yeah;he was familiar with it;and it might be true,or might not...But,then I mentioned it was supposed to be up near GreenStone Ridge, wherever that is,and HE SAID"NOPE-UP NEAR MUDD LAKE"...Now,there is a Mud Lake down near Hancock;50 miles away, but he meant MUDD LAKE;in-between M-26 and Brockway Mountain Drive;and in the middle of country only a mountain goat could get to,if THEY could...All that iron and copper, and them high ridges full of trees would NOT be a good place to be during a thunderstorm, and they strike without a moments'notice up there...Does that guy know more than he's telling?Who knows??All I know is if its up there;it would take a HUGE effort to even go look for it-IF its not on private land,as it surely must be....

The ketchup is cheaper than copper cleaner!

Hey, maybe we should try cleaning copper pennies with ketchup.....they might look better afterwards! :) Steve, if you are as sure-footed as a mountain goat, ya might try climbing up and finding out if there is a Wall of Silver in a mine along the cliffs!! I wouldn't want to be up high when a storm was brewing or happening.....wow....the lightning could get you or loosing your footing for sure would be baaaaad!

Glad you had a great time and sounds like you got around to different places!

God Bless!
