Nothing to do here. Got more snow today. Will be awhile before we can get back out.

Dude!:yikes: whats this? Are these finds with your 19? I'd soil myself bloody stupid if I ever found anything like these! I may have just done that from looking at these pics!:surprised: Thanks Geo! Danged cold and getting colder for the foreseeable future up here I was even contemplating a drive South just so I could hunt, but then saw that even Alabama was getting a blizzard today! More Candy please!:lmfao:

Gentlemen..as a side note....this is the first year I have not been able to find a hunt all through Jan/Feb...yes, even on the sled hill...its just been too brutal sub Z cold to even contemplate a venture out...seems a guy would have to drive West into Kansas to find anything near 40 degrees to work the dirt...so post any and all that you can to get us through!..even a week from now the MI forecast is calling for sub Z's...:sadwalk:

Various detectors. Some of my existing collection.

I'm with you boys north of me last two weeks. Lost 4 days of work due to ice and snow ( ain't risking my new jetta lol).

Did find a small old ladies sterling ring. And some other goods I just haven't had the motivation to post.

Stay warm guys,

Lakota

absolutely awesome finds George....so far after 8 seasons here in Toronto I can't match even 1 of your finds....

that's some incentive to keep trying though...

Awesome finds. I especially like the buttons. Michigan, Connecticut, New York, & New Hampshire I think, right? How's the F19 on CW buttons?

Sometimes when I look back on all the coins and relics I have found one button has eluded me. A George Washington Inaugural. That keeps me going. Every day out in the field is a blessing. Keep at it friend and you will find what the coil passes over. Regards

Nice stuff buddy. I've only been out two times since the year started. This winter is holding on. Looks like its going to break in a couple of weeks. I hope so. HH

Outstanding finds WCH!!

If I may ask, can you share where (not X marks the spot, but state) and what kind of site the Phoenix buttons came from ??

The hard core detectorists in California find them when they find mission era sites and indian trading sites, their definitelly not a common find, but I've been lucky to find eight so far.

All including one cuff from where an old trading post stood along a river in Virginia

Thanks George, that makes sense.

The Phoenix buttons on the west coast are rare finds, most detectorists out here never find a single one, but they must be ultra rare to find in Virginia eh?

HH,
Brian

For starters, let me say "congradulations". I am Brian (Cal Cobra's) hunting buddy here in CA. I've found a few of those phoenix buttons too. Can I have your permission to forward this post link to a premier collector/author/researcher of those buttons? He's in Washington state. He's not an md'r. Just a historian. He likes to study their demographics of where they've turned up in the USA. For a book he's working on (or a chapter in a book) that is to be about indian trade items. Those phoenix buttons turn up in the Columbia River area, where they were apparently traded with the indians for their labor, trade, etc.... And he can give you an idea of their rarity (some #'s, styles, sizes are rarer than others). Drop me a line if it's ok to put you two in contact.

Again: Congratz. The buttons and silver coins are awesome !

Nice! I guess the higher freq machines like the F19 & G2 like brass huh? I've been thinking about one of those two machines. Just not sure if it will be overkill since I swing a F75LTD (soon to be LTD2). I'm in Virginia also. Dug a Maine & Mass the same day at a home site in Central VA last year. Buttons are my favorite relics by far. Thanks for the info on the machine.

F19 would and is my choice.

I hope the weather breaks this week. Will be muddy but it will be a go soon. Good luck.

I know of 4 however I suspect more have been found.

wood-chipper, I ran your link to this post past the collector friend of mine from Washington (hope that was ok). A few observations:

a) your particular 2 here aren't particularly rare #s, size, type. However, "rare" is a loaded term when it comes to PB's. Because there simply isn't that many collectors/buyers lately. So if a button gets dug, that ... say ... only 10 or 20 of that type/size # are known to exist, it might not be "rare". [contrast to if you found a barber dime of which only "10 or 20 were known to exist", and you'd be rich! :) ] The artillery (aka cannon-mortor) one you found, might fetch $200 if you floated it on ebay. But you know the drill: It just depends on if 2 or 3 of that niche-of collectors happened to see, and bid on it at the same time.

b) Of all the east coast states where PB's have been found, Virginia leads the way in #'s that have been recorded found.

If you want me to forward the exchange to you, drop me a PM with your regular email address, and I'll forward the emails to you.
