Some finds from the last two weeks

small change

New member
All the finds are from two weekends worth + a couple of weekday evening hunts after work. Sat. the 9th I started at an elementary school grounds part of which used to be an old fairgrounds dating back to the 1850s. Never had found much there before & didn't this time. But I did get the '04 Indian Head and an old ring (the one with the blue stone) of unknown composition. I can't find anything stamped on it anywhere. I also found the silver bracelet that was partially sticking out of the dirt. It is stamped .925 so I know it is silver but it gave a lower tone signal rather close to a nickel. After a few hours of that I went over to another small town schoolyard where there had been an old school before. Managed 6 wheats & a '28 Mercury & a '58 Jeff Nickel. I had found a few wheats there before with my XLT but hadn't found any silver until I found the merc. Sunday the 10th I drove a lot & ended up hunting four places, three old schools & last one an old small town park. Struck out at all of them as I only managed 4-5 wheats & a bent-up silver ring between all of them. Tues. the 12th after work I went back to the fish hatchery park & searched until nearly dark. Found 2 mercs ('43 & '45d) one wheat & a '38 Jeff Nickel. Last Saturday (16th) I drove around to a few schools but never searched anywhere as everything was too wet from all the rain Friday nite. Sunday I went over to one of the old parks in St. Louis thinking the club I belong to would be having a hunt there but after no one showed up for a couple hours I knew I'd screwed up somewhere. It turned out ok, though as I did manage a '43P War Nickel, a well worn '07 Barber Dime, two Buffalo Nickels ('13 & '24), a '41 Jeff Nickel & just a couple wheats. Left early afternoon & drove back Northeast in to IL & intended to hunt some soccer fields where an old fairgrounds used to be but decided to wait until another time as there was a crowd inside the community center building next door. Drove to the next town over to hunt some old high school athletic fields where I have found several silver coins in the last 2-3 years. Spent about 3 1/2 hours there & got 2 Mercs ('36 & '39) & 5 Wheats. The last hunt was just last night when after work I went out to the local park/county fairgrounds in town & worked a hill not far from the barns for about 3 hrs. Picked one Merc & 9 wheats out of an area where there were quite a few nails & old rusty bottle caps in spots. I was surprised that none of the coins were very deep, I'd say most less than 5". I had searched that area 2-3 years ago before I had the SE & did get a couple silver dimes nearby but I don't recall finding more than a wheat or two. I guess the ground conditions now are probably much better than they were the last time I was there.

Nice scores with the Jewelry! It's a lot of fun digging up Jewelry and adds nicely to anyones collections. You did great on finds and hope it continues for you. Good Luck and HH to you on your next hunt outdoors.

Looks like some very productive hunts Mr. Change:thumbup:

Too bad you don't have any buddies that own a Harley:rolleyes:...it would be pretty cool for you to give them the little Harley bracelet you found:)
Oh wait a minute...I know someone...me!:smoke:

None of those hunts were spectacular, but I was finding at least a couple good items on almost every hunt which is enough to keep it interesting
and keep me motivated & not discouraged. So far this year looks like it can be a little better than last year findwise, as long as it doesn't turn off really hot & dry for a long stretch later this summer.
