Some finds

Here's three items I found in the lawn of an original 1835 family log cabin site in the St.Louis area. The cabin is now privately owned by a preservation society group, restored, and still there. Known history is that the family was wealthy and farmed 700 surrounding acres with slaves from 1835 on thru the civil war era. They are buried in a nearby cemetery. I also found an old hoe head which the new owners wanted. I'm most curious about the button. Can of you button experts give me any dating or info on this item ?
Also found the shotgun shell head in the same place all within 20 feet of the front door of the cabin. It's marked:
U.M.C. Co
No. 12
New Club
Same question: Anyone have an idea on the approximate dating. I'm guessing sometime around the civil war era. Probably black powder ??
Any "professional" opinions or expert knowledge welcomed ! Had fun hunting this place.

can't help out with the button, all of my books are aimed at military buttons. this one looks civilian. nice finds though.

UNION METALLIC Co.
(1867-1911. Combined with Remington to form REM-UMC from 1911-1934. 1934 bought out by Dupont to form Remington Arms Co., as it still stands today)
