So back in the day we had the blacksmith, he could do anything with metals, do ya see where this is going? I found this past summer some cool blacksmithing items, but what perhaps most of you don't know is in the slag piles they made is the extras, not a chance did they have refining like we do today. So.............I have 3 slag nuggets that are what looks to be copper, but there's also gold in them, and from what I can tell the gold is the better portion of the slag nugget. When gold is poured it's pretty black looking with all the impurities in it around the exterior. Until it's taken off with a wire brush or peened etc. So my point is research areas as to where blacksmiths were back in the day and find their slag pile. I did and it may pay off with a big bunch of gas money lol. No pics, sorry as the samples are out to pasture seein how much sun's gonna shine on them lol. Lol cheers an HH

Cool! I think William NM found some silver and gold slag a while back at an old blacksmith area I remember...gonna have to keep an eye out for lots of coal/iron slag in an area behind an old house huh?

Hi Mud, there's usually a place where the homesteaders did their iron work and then if you have any maps of areas that needed an onsite blacksmith then maybe you could track it from there. A friend of mine is a blacksmith and he tells stories of what they often did behind closed doors for their own use. An often they would do special smelting lets say after hours of business was closed for private individuals personal needs. In hand a few drinks poured back and then you have the missed precious metals in the pile lol, Cheers and good luck.

I find it interesting were finds show up, with a little imagination. Years back someone decided to dredge\sluice the area below the Canadian mint. Apparently they recovered a fair bit of gold in the general discharge area. I have also heard of a guy finding a lot of rings in a field were the human waste was skimmed off in a treatment plant, then dumped in a field.

lol makes sense UN, it may be an idea to follow the honey wagons and detect the fields they pour it on too lol. Hip waders on for that one. You're right, with some imagination one can find places that maybe have never seen the detector. Cheers an HH.
