Something I Don't Understand About Replacing AT Pro Headphones

Are you guys that are cutting the cable to splice in new headphones not ever planning to use the AT Pro in the water? Also, wouldn't a heavy rain short out the
new headphones? I understand that the Garrett headphones are apparently not very good and the cord is too short, but it looks like you are losing one of the main reasons to buy this metal detector. Just curious.

I plan on wading and the one's I built are just as good as the Garret land phones for that fact...If you spend any time in water get the underwater phone's..

but I have underwater phones for wading and such...

Garrett headphones are just fine.

quite, soft and very comfortable phones with no drain holes.

phones that keep out all the wind and wave noise.......................now in the summer months when i know i will get wet from waves, rain or whatever i used waterproof phones which i plan doing with the at pro when summer arrives, until then i will not need waterproof phones.

during the winter, we mostly wade in knee deep or less and work the wet sand..........................in virginia beach area.

the blue phones are pretty nice feeling and fit much nicer than the land ones...............m h o.

If i tryed that i would screw up every thing........... SO i am just going to buy the adapter from Texas premium detectors then it cost me more BUT i have the right thing for the AT Pro .....And i don't have to cut and splice all i have to do is plug it in .....

The stock ones are not waterproof the plug is and if you cut the cord and add a plug for normal headphone the stock plug is still waterproof at the box. Just not the adaptor plug.
To me it is worth it to have better fitting and sounding phones. Should still be fine for rain hunting. Also I can use one of several sets I have. The way it is factory if those go out you are done unless you want to hunt with the speaker on the box. For the price of the detector I have no complaints about the phones they send as good as any any other company sends but not as good as what you can buy.

Thanks, ya'll. What I was really confused by, was the ones that spliced a female adapter into the line. I know you can make the adapter waterproof by adding silicone. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. I also liked hearing that the Garrett headphones aren't as bad as I thought from reading the forum. Skip
