...There's been a commercial on the Discovery Channel the last 2 weeks, about SHARK WEEK shows coming up....In the commercial, the lifeguard is looking thru binoculars and sees a shark-fin off shore-He yells"SHARK!!"-And all the people on the beach run TOWARD THE WATER .....Am I missing something?? Is running toward something that considers humans an entree' some kind of new fad???:wacko:

when i was in the 5th grade my parents took my sister and I on vacation to San Diego. we went and visited relatives. my great uncle was retired from the Navy so we were able to go the private Navy Beach. anyways..my cousins were teaching me how to boogie board. we were a little ways out waiting for a wave when people on the shore started yelling SHARK. scared us to death we high tailed it to the beach. when we were out of the water we turned and saw thier heads popping up out of the water. They were not sharks, they were pilot whales. The friendlest creatures in the ocean. so we went back out and they stayed and hung out. they would swim under our feet and pop up beside us. they were so close to us we could reach out and touch them. it was so cool to be able to play with Gods creatures out in the ocean like that. a vacation I will never forget..:bouncy:

Nice story, dobbie! Sounds like the time when me, my ex and family went to Silver Springs, Florida and took the boat along the river to see the monkeys and etc. While out in the boat....which was pretty full of tourists, including us....the guide telling about the river and animals said in the bushes along shore was a water moccasin snake and he started pulling the boat closer to shore....well the people on the farthest side all rushed to the bank side of the boat to see the critter and almost overturned the flat-bottom boat! He hollered for everyone to sit down and then got us close enough for all to see the fearsome reptile. Along the bank was a huge tree where a family of monkies were living and this one female was holding a tiny baby in her arms....IT WAS SO CUTE AND I HAVE A PIC OF THE MONKEY FAMILY SOMEPLACE! Something I have remembered about vacationing in Florida that year! (Also the guide looked a lot like Johnny Wiesmueller but guess he wasn't.....anyway he was a look- alike)!
I am glad to have had the vacations long ago because I haven't been able to take any trips to other states since the early 1980's! Really enjoy the memories! :)

God Bless!
