Sometimes trash is treasure! ...sort of..

I finally have some spare time and have been getting out a little and detecting. It started with the idea that after shelling out 550 for a furnace repair that a nice gold ring would make me feel better!! I know, I shouldn't put that kinda pressure on myself! LOL... Anyway, no gold rings thus far after 6 tot lots but I did dig a couple unusual peices of trash last night. My detector rang out 30-32, which is usually a penny, but when I dug it up, it was a smashed up ball of solid copper! A few minutes later I dug another one! Sure, this isn't super exciting stuff but normally those kinds of metal 'wads' are aluminum. I can only guess that peices of metal are run into the mulching machine with all the trees, fence material, etc. that is ground up to make the mulch for the kiddos, and I find a ton of strange metal bits on every tot lot. in fact the LACK of those metal bits are how I know somebody has beat me to the punch on certain lots. I've run into two so far that were kleeeeeeeeeen...

So I added my two little man-made copper nuggets to my 'treasure' jar. Kinda funny looking sitting in there amongst the necklace pendants, rings, etc., but I don't know exactly what else to do with them and I'm not throwing them away! I also did pull a '58 wheatie and $2.50 in clad. No junk jewelry, no 'nitros' this time out!

Save all the copper wire you can find. It's worth right at $3.00 per pound. I take copper out of everything that no good. An old AC Unite Air Conditior, has probably 10 pounds of it in copper tubeing. 10 lbs = $30.00

Kinda my thinking of keeping it instead of selling!
