I buried a Quarter in my yard 8" deep to test the signal from my ML Elite.First tried my Tornado 8" very, slight signal had to know where the coin was to get the signal.Next tried the Sunray s-12 same thing, if I hadn't known I was looking for the coin I would not have even given it a second look very ,very weak change. Then tried my Fisher CZ 70 with 10.5 sens. at 6 GB at 5 nice solid coin tone coin reading at depth reading of 8" then the 8" fisher coil same thing solid tone coin 8". Tried everything with my ML sens. thresh. band 1,2 all metal Disc got the best tone in Disc. mode but that was a no dig tone.Really not a tone more of a change in the threshold hum. Why cant I detect the coin with the Minelab?

The Sovereign will not air test well and if you just burried the coin than it will be like a air test. There is air mixed in with the soil and I think if you leave this coin untill next year or 2 you will be surprised at how well you will get a signal on it.
If you are new to the Sovereign that too can make a difference as the coil has to be wiggled over a target this deep once you get the tone change which you will learn from experiences.
Myself have dug 12 inches with the 8 inch coinsearch and 14 with the S12, but these are the type of signal that the tone changes enough to let you know there is a target there and by wiggeling the coil just right the tones and the numbers on the meter are trying to climb, but just cant make it to the correct ones.
The big thing is getting to know your Soveregin and to do this you have to use it as you learn it, you will be happy with the results if you have the patience to learn it, just ask those on here that have.

Iv'e got an E-lite, and had a CZ-70 pro
The Fisher got good depth, on coins and nails both
fast little machine to hunt with <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">
But I kept my E-lite, and sold the fisher
Seems I found more oldies with the E-lite, than the Fisher
The Fisher loves iron, the E-lite can,t hear it
But maybe there's a coin next to that nail
If you go slow, I mean slow>>>>>>>>>
the elite will tell you the difference
Hence I dig more keepers, and less iron <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Hope I didn't make anybody mad <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">

P.S. I'm old, <img src="/metal/html/sad.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":sad"> so going slow is'nt a problem for me <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

You certainly have not offended me.I appreciate any and all opinions.I am trying to figure out this machine.I have had it for about a year now. I have moved very slow trying to separate any signals.I am still waiting for that Holey s#$t that is what a deep coin sounds like.I'll keep trying and Thanks for all the info

I have a cz70Pro Fisher and it goes deep and id is pretty good to. Side by side I easily can hear a bigger hard hitting signal on 8 inch dimes in the ground with my Fisher but just now learning the Sov I have finally learned that it just takes me a little more effort to get set right and manipulate the coil to hit on the dime. I will say this and that is when I first used the gt as a newbie I had a time just hitting on a 6 inch dime I learned that the closer to the ground and even scrubbing the ground gets me signals I did not hear otherwise and they can come through as definite diggable.
The sov is just plain different and following the tips on using it sure helps.
I am still a newbie but getting more and more comfortable with the sov.
