Sovereign GT / Whites MXT

shovel full

New member
I'm in the middle of deciding between these two excellent machines Minelab Sovereign GT and Whites MXT. will primary hunting relic and coin/jewlry and Occasionally I will prospect and(fresh water) beach hunt as well. Any information that anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

They are two totally different detectors; multi-frequency and VLF. In high mineral soil and saltwater beaches, I give the depth edge to the Sov GT. In plowed ground I would go with the MXT. In heavy iron trash, it would be difficult to beat a Sovereign. Minelab has a strong advantage in heavy iron trash. Talk to guys that have used both and weigh the pro's and con's. Both are good detectors. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

For prospecting the MXT is hands down the winner but for eveything else you mentioned the GT will give better performance IMO. Like David already mentioned, the GT deals with iron much better. It's no slouch on salt water beaches either, even in the wet soupy stuff.
The GT has allot better balance with the straight shaft than previous Sovereigns, the MXT is well balanced and handle easy too.
Both units have their strengths, if you can find a dealer close by that sells both I suggest you do a hands on and decide then.
Good luck, either choice is a good one..
H.H.
Mike
