sovereign XS 2 pro problem???

Eric

New member
Today I received my pre-owned sovereign XS 2 pro. It looks really good and definately not abused. Inside while testing I noticed no difference in tones with several items and also iron. Maybe thats need just more training on my side. I also noticed that it is very hard to disc out a smaller iron item.I tried it with several objects but even when I turned the knob completely clockwise. It will not disc out that tiny iron ring on a keyholder!

I took it to a field that produced really good on previous hunts but also contains a lot of old iron. I spent only one hour there but the sovereign worked fine and hit hard. But I only dug old rusty iron. I am worried because when switched from disc to all metal, there seemed to be no change in operation at all. I feel that it was always in all metal. I switched the sensitivity from auto to the 12 o'clock position, treshold on a light hum notch and disc of unless I was experimenting. Suddenly it sounded off very loud and kept doing that so i decided to stop.

it had the rechargeble batterypack in it. Could it be that it is empty?? It home I tried the batteryholders with new batteries but what a pain in the.....
Impossible to shut that door!

Now......

is it possible that the poor performance in disc is caused by almost empty batteries?? Normally I dig almost everything and use just a little discrimination but I like to hear when its iron..
My sovereign has no meter on it. I also cant use my timberwolf headphones.

I hope I can get some answers as I dont have a manual.

Thanks you in advance.

Eric.

First thing is get the rechargeable battery charged up as I have seen many different problem when they are not charged up. Even try the alkaline pack with new Alkaline and don't try to put rechargeable in it as it only hold eight batteries and the rechargeable are only 1.2 volts each and not enough for the 12 volts needed to run the Sovereign. If the tones don't seem to change you may have it stuck in all metal or you may have a XS2 that was sold by Kellyco that has a single tone switch on the back where the coil wire comes in.
The Timberwolfs should work on your Sovereign and some have a toggle switch for stereo or mono detector, so check and see if that switch will make a difference, if not you probably have a broken wire in the headphone cable. It may work on other detector, but not on the Sovereign and a few others. I had it happen once and heard of others too that had 1 wire broke..

Get it charged up and let us know how it will work for you.

Thanks Rick,

right now i have the detector turned on to decharge it completely as I heard that is the best way yo do it. It its stuck in all metal..... would it cost a fortune to fix it?

Thanks, Eric.

Eric.....
Probably just the switch. They get dirt in them if they don't have a rubber boot over them. It eats them up fast. A switch won't cost much.

You only need to run your battery pack down far enough that the detector stops working. This will be somewhere around 10 volts.

After charging the battery for a night, the detector works well but ONLY in all metal. I have to return it to have it fixed. One more question, does the XS2 gives a growl on iron when the disc is working correctly?

Thanks

Eric.

Yes.......it will be a low frequency raspy tone in the threshold that follows a null in threshold.....most of the time.
If the iron is rusted just right, large enough, or shaped just right, it can give target audio that can be as high a tone as silver. Takes some time to get the feel for these kinds of signals. Most iron that sounds off will seem squishy and unstable in location.

try what rick said about the switch. if they get dirty it can stick it all-metal. a lot better than sending it in if that takes care of the problem.

If the switch as dirt in it, take a can of compressed air (used for computes) and gently blow the switch out by turning the switch facing down to blow the dirt out and not into the switch. Also flip the switch while blowing it out. Hopefully that will dislodge any dirt in the switch.
